Helen Bischoff - December 06, 2009
Helen Bischoff was born to Mary Anna and Martin Roschewski on July 21, 1914, in Beatrice, Neb., and passed away Dec. 6, 2009, in Salem, Ore.
Her family included two brothers, Ed and Howard; and four sisters, Christina Shank, Agatha Nelson, Louise Bartels and Rachel Haarberg. All preceded her in death.
She married Carl Bischoff in Beatrice in 1936. They had one daughter, Melva Geraldine.
In 1955 they moved to Salem, Ore. Carl died in 1964.
Helen was a natural in the kitchen, baking bread and cookies, making potato salad, her special soups, vegetable and chicken noodle and of course, her German cookies, peppernuts, during the Christmas holidays. She also enjoyed sewing, embroidery work, reading and especially her grandchildren.
Helen was a cancer survivor, having been diagnosed in 1989.
She had been well taken care of by caregivers at Four Seasons Care Home in Salem the last seven years.
She is survived by her daughter, Melva; son-in-law, Mike; grandsons, Rod and Randy Schultz; great granddaughters, Ashley and Amber; great grandsons, Christian and Jordan; one step granddaughter; one step grandson; three step great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009, at 1 p.m. at Howell, Edwards, Doerksen, with Rigdon-Ransom Funeral Directors of Salem, Ore.
She will be laid to rest beside her husband at Belcrest Memorial Gardens in Salem.
