Fuel and feed, convenience store opening in Palisade

Camie Cox acknowledges that with the economy in turmoil, it’s an odd time to open a new business.
But she and her husband, Matt, have taken the plunge anyway, opening Happy’s Feed Store and Fuel Center on the south side of Highway 6 in Palisade.
“It’s something our community needs,” Cox said. “It was something that I have wanted to do. We also will use the feed store products out there. If we don’t like it, we’re not going to promote it. They’re going to know it’s going to work, or it’s not going to go through us.”
The business will include a fuel station focused toward semis and other bigger vehicles. “It’ll be convenient for them,” she said. “We’ll have a nice car fuel station.”
Plans call for a six-pump fuel station that will dispense unleaded, diesel (with satellite tank for semis) and farm fuel. Fuel tanks should be in by the third week of next month, she said, although the store already is selling feed out of its 360-foot square warehouse.
The business also will have a convenience store — that part is being renovated right now — and storage units for campers and boats. There will be 25 of those, ranging from 14x35 feet to 10x10 feet.
