Marvin Gardner - December 18, 2012
The greatest man I've ever known, our father and best friend, Marvin L. Gardner of Hamlet, Neb., departed this earth on Dec. 18, 2012, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lincoln, Neb., at the age of 78.
Marv was born April 26, 1934, in Hayes County to the late Grey Marvin Gardner and Lena (Schmidt) Gardner of Hamlet.
?Marv grew up farming, then joined the Navy where he served in the Korean War. When he returned from the war, Marvin soon married Patricia Ann Greeley of Hamlet, daughter of the late Floyd and Margaret Greeley.
Marvin and Patricia’s life journey took them to Oregon where they started a business building homes. They had much success together, traveled the world and gave selflessly to many.
Marvin and Patricia had two children and one grand-daughter.
He enjoyed ranching, singing, playing his guitar and bringing tremendous joy to his children and grand-daughter. His teachings and love will live on through us.
Marvin is survived by his daughter, Dana M. Gardner, son Brock M. Gardner, grand-daughter Erin Ashley Gardner-Baker; sisters: Irene (Gardner) Carse, Ramona (Gardner) Wilcox and husband Harold Wilcox; brother, George Gardner and wife JoAnn Gardner, and his nieces and nephews.
We invite you to join us in a celebration of Marvin Gardner’s life. A memorial will be held on April 27th at 11 a.m. CT at the Union Church in Hamlet.
My father, my best friend, although our hearts are breaking, I know that one day we will be together again.
(So daddy, don’t forget me, when it’s my time to fly,
I want to hold your hand, when you meet me in the sky.
Sometimes we’d sit for hours, playing our guitars,
You’d always look to me and say,
“There’s more to life up there.”)
The great love you gave us, and knowing this, will carry us through, until we meet again.
