Veronica Haarberg - April 09, 2009


Veronica ‘Vernie’ Haarberg passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2009, in Orange, Calif. She was born in Turlock, Calif., on Dec. 15, 1940, to Manuel and Delcene Bettencourt, both of whose parents immigrated to America from the Azores Islands of Portugal. She was the oldest of three children. She played clarinet and piano in her youth, as well as modeled.
She met her future husband of 48 years, Edwin ‘Ed’ Haarberg, while they both attended Turlock High School. After graduation, they married and started their family of three sons and a daughter. After several moves as a young family, they ultimately settled in Villa Park.
Veronica’s proudest accomplishments are her 48 year marriage to Ed, her four children and her seven grandchildren on whom she doted.
She is survived by brother Steve; sister Evelyn; husband Ed; sons Daryl and wife Judy, Dirck and wife Nancy and Sean and wife Carrie; daughter Sheri and husband Joe; and grandchildren: Monica, Craig, Audrey, Justine, Stuart, Gabriel and Finn, as well as plenty of nieces and nephews and an “adopted” daughter, Siri, from Norway.
Viewing was held at Shannon-Bryan Mortuary in Orange Friday, March 20. Funeral services were held at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Orange on Saturday, March 21 at 11 a.m. with committal following at St. John’s Cemetery. Following the services a celebration of life was held at the family home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be donated to St. John’s Lutheran Church - School Endowment Fund at 145 S. Shaffer, Orange, CA 92866.
