Charlotte Christner - December 31, 1969

Charlotte Bernice Christner was born Dec. 5, 1931, to Charles and Elizabeth (Barton) Swan in Keokuk, Iowa. Charlotte grew up and attended elementary and high school at Keokuk, graduating in 1950. After graduation, Charlotte worked as a window dresser at J.C. Penney and at the Shaeffer Pen Company.
On Oct. 8, 1960, Charlotte married William Robert Christner in Keokuk, Iowa. To this union, four children, Steve, Elizabeth, Donald and Charles, were born.
The couple settled north of Hamlet, Neb., and lived on several farms before making their home on the family farm eight miles north of Hamlet where they have resided until present.
Charlotte was a member of the Alliance women ladies group of Hamlet Union Church. She enjoyed drawing, painting, sewing and numerous crafts.
She passed away Monday afternoon, March 16, 2009, at the Heritage of Wauneta Nursing Home in Wauneta, Neb. She was 77 years of age.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents and her half brother, Carl Swan.
Survivors include: husband Bill of rural Wauneta; son Steve and wife, Vicki, of Hamlet; daughter Elizabeth Schmidt of Wichita, Kan.; son Donald and wife, Tonya, of Cheyenne, Wyo.; son Charles and wife, Becki, of Kansas City, Kan.; 13 grandchildren and brother Robert Swan and wife, Iris, of McPherson, Kan.
Funeral services were held Friday morning, March 20, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. CT at the Hamlet Union Church, Hamlet, with Associate Pastor Kevin McGraw officiating.
Pianist and soloist was Sara Behrends. “Find Us Faithful” was the musical selection chosen, along with the congregational hymns: “When We All Get To Heaven” and “Leaning on the Everlasting Arms.”
Casketbearers were Jeff Steinke, Wayne Christner, Don Bornemeier, Lloyd Lapp, Benjamin Schmidt and John Christner.
Interment was at the Meadow Lawn Cemetery, Hamlet.
A memorial has been established in Charlotte’s memory.
Liewer Funeral Home of Wauneta was in charge of arrangements.
