William Keith Kerchal - August 01, 2010

William Keith Kerchal, son of Joseph I. Kerchal and Olga C. (Vlasin) Kerchal, was born on the family farm 13 miles north of Wauneta, Neb., on May 15, 1928. He departed this life on Aug 1, 2010, at Heritage of Wauneta after a lingering illness.
Keith spent his entire life on the farmstead where he was born. The exception was two years that he served his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
He received his early education at the “brick school” north of his home, and graduated from Wauneta High School in 1945. He enjoyed working with iron and spent much time in his father’s shop learning welding and metal fabrication.
He married his wife of over 55 years, Nona J. (Boulton) Kerchal on June 4, 1955. To this union were born three sons, Kim William, Kevin Joe and Lloyd John.
His parents, Joseph and Olga Kerchal and five siblings, Eva Polly, Leonard, Virgil, Ramona Nordhausen and O. Joann Vicary, preceded him in death.
Keith was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and attended faithfully while health permitted.
He is survived by his wife, Nona; three sons: Kim and wife Jane of Risca S. Wales, Kevin and wife Laurie of Wauneta and Lloyd and wife Kathleen of Fort Collins, Colo.; six grandchildren: Heidi, Heather, Joel and wife Jessi, Elise, Justin and Bryan; brother-in-law, Robert Stephens and numerous nephews and nieces.
A memorial service will be held at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Wauneta, Neb., on Saturday, Aug. 7 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Greg Stuckwisch officiating. Committal will be held at Riverside Cemetery, Wauneta.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations go to the Orphan Grain Train.
Liewer Funeral Home of Wauneta is in charge of arrangements.
