Wauneta Gennaro - January 04, 2009

Wauneta Maxine Gennaro, 87, of Peoria, Ill., passed away on Sunday, Jan. 4, 2009, at home, with her family by her side.
Maxine was born in Wauneta, Neb., on Dec. 22, 1921, a daughter of Ralph and Minta (Speer) Grosbach. They preceded her in death, along with her twin brothers, Ronald and Donald Grosbach.
She married Vincent Gennaro on July 16, 1946, in Enders. He survives, along with their son, David (Kim) Gennaro of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; daughters: Linda (Pastor Ken) Durst of Peoria, Ill., Lois Gennaro of Peoria, Ill., and Rebecca (Chris Grainger) Gennaro of San Diego, Calif.; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and sister, Gladys (Dwight) Hoff of Imperial.
Maxine graduated from the University of Nebraska, earning her Bachelor of Nursing in 1941. She was a U.S. Army World War II Veteran, serving as a nurse at Camp Carson, Colo., Hospital.
She retired in 1983, after 20 years, as a nurse in the Neonatal Nursery at Carle Hospital in Urbana, Ill. She was a pastor’s wife and a member of the Church of the Nazarene.
A private family visitation and funeral service were held on Friday, Jan. 9, 2009, at Clary Funeral Home in Peoria, Ill., with her son-in-law, Pastor Ken Durst, officiating.
