|Arctic blast descends over southwest Nebraska|

Temperatures went from the high 50s Saturday to blowing snow and lows below zero Sunday as an arctic blast moved through the region. Overnight lows Sunday ranged from 5 below to 20 below zero across the area, according to the National Weather Service.
The official reading for Wauneta was 5 below zero, but unofficial readings were much lower in town, with many reporting mercury readings around 15 below.
NWS readings for other portions of the area include 17 below at Champion, 16 below at Imperial, 13 below at Hayes Center, 12 below at North Platte, and 9 below at Culbertson.
The frigid temperatures are expected to moderate by later in the week before returning this coming weekend. Highs in the 40s are forecast for Thursday, with temps expected to fall back to single digits by Sunday.
