Derek Harris has completed basic combat training in Fort Benning, Ga., and is now in advanced training in communications and computers. The 2002 graduate of Wauneta-Palisade High School completed his training with ALPHA Company, 2nd Battalion, 47th Infantry Regiment in Fort Benning, Ga. He is the son of Terry and Dora Harris of rural Wauneta, and the grandson of Keith and Beaulah Harris of Imperial and Betty Steinke of Palmer, formerly of Wauneta.
Former Husker speaks at Wauneta-Palisade athletic banquet. Coaches and student athletes were joined by parents and fans to celebrate the great accomplishments of the past year of WP high school sports. This year’s guest speaker was former Nebraska Cornhusker running back Derek Brown. He asked the audience to give him one happy word that determines our happiness in life, ATTITUDE.
Sharon Miller visited Friday with Doug and Kathy Hamilton of Alliance and Kayla Hamilton of Lincoln, also Deana Andrew of Lincoln, at the home of Pearl Andrew in Palisade.
Nine Wauneta-Palisade trackster head east to Omaha after districts, Kiane Alberts, Blair Dixon, Andrew Isom, Jake Smith, Taylor Dixon, Betsy Anderjaska, Stephanie Padilla, Peter Barger and Kyle Steinke.

Retiring teacher Velma Hromas was recognized Friday during the Wauneta-Palisade Honor’s Night. She will retiring after 23 years of service at Wauneta Public Schools.
Ane and Tami Sandman and the girls of the sixth grade class went bowling at Imperial followed by pizza party at Pizza Hut.

New Vo-Ag teacher for Wauneta. Mr. Kirt Payne has signed a contract to teach Vocational Agricultural at the Wauneta High School for the 1966-1967 school year.
Esther Haarberg and Tillie Meister and several other ladies attended a coffee in the home of Mrs. Ross Ditton to celebrate her birthday.
Craig Fanning spent Saturday with Mrs. Leola Moody and Vonna Jo.

Emiel Wahling, music director in Wauneta schools will stay in Wauneta this summer and direct the town band and conduct a concert each Wednesday evening.
Mr. and Mrs. O. Garwood of Ogallala attended commencement exercises in Wauneta Thursday evening, Nancy Burham, one of the graduates is a niece of the Garwoods.

Lee Kitt had a little excitement one day last week when he let the fire get away while back firing. Some of the neighbors helped put it out.

May 17, 1906
Kitt’s dray team ran away from the depot Wednesday morning and ran down the alley and into the old header back of Pences where they got tangled up and stopped. They had gotten out with difficulty, and one of them came very near being chocked to death before being cut out.
Jessie Dudek is having a tussle with the measles.
Omar Kitt has bought a half interest in the dray line.
