This year’s headliners for the 2016 Chase County Fair now stands complete.
Alex McNair, entertainment chair for the fair board, announced this week the Rock ’N Roll Hall of Fame group KANSAS will perform Saturday, Aug. 20.
Two weeks ago, McNair announced they signed country star Jake Owen for the Friday, Aug. 19 country show.
Last year, the fair’s headline entertainment featured two country groups.
McNair said the board really wanted to return to one night of country and one night of Rock to appeal to a wider variety of audiences and ages.
Last year, the routing to get a Rock group just didn’t fit the fair’s schedule. So McNair said they are really excited to bring Kansas to the stage this year.
“Dust in the Wind”
Any Rock ’N Roll fan will remember one of Kansas’s biggest songs, “Dust in the Wind.” No doubt, fans are singing the song to themselves now as they read this. That’s just how big the song was.
“Carry On Wayward Son,” another Rock classic, was the second most played track on classic rock radio in ’95 and went to No. 1 in ’97.
KANSAS appeared on the Billboard charts for over 200 weeks throughout the ’70s and ’80s and played to sold-out arenas and stadiums throughout North America, Europe and Japan.
The band has produced eight gold albums, three sextuple-Platinum albums with “Leftoverture,” “Point of Know Return” and “Best of KANSAS”, one platinum live album, “Two for the Show,” and a million-selling gold single, ‘Dust in the Wind.’
Coinciding with the celebration of their 40th anniversary, the band KANSAS, was inducted into both the Kansas Hall of Fame and the Georgia Music Hall of Fame as recognition for their achievements from both their native state and adopted home state.
KANSAS remains a fixture on Classic Rock radio and has reached a whole new audience through their unmistakable presence in the popular video games Rock Band and Guitar Hero.
Their songs have also been part of various television shows such as ‘Supernatural,’ and ‘South Park,’ and with films ‘Old School,’ and ‘Anchorman.’
The band is currently comprised of original drummer Phil Ehart, bassist/vocalist Billy Greer, keyboardist David Manion, vocalist/keyboardist Ronnie Platt, violinist/guitarist David Ragsdale, and original guitarist Richard Williams.
They continue to perform in front of large and enthusiastic audiences around the world.
McNair said ticket information for both shows will be released on the fair’s web site at a later date.
He said the board is also completing the booking of openers for both night’s headliners.
