Volunteers still needed
for packing event

In three days next week, volunteers will pack more than 272,000 meals for hungry kids around the world.
The 4th annual Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) MobilePack™ event will be held in Imperial Thursday, July 24 through Saturday, July 26.
The event will be held at the Crossroads Wesleyan Church, 1710 Wesley Drive. It’s sponsored by Southwest Nebraska Meals for God’s Children (SNMGC).
Dick Banks of Imperial coordinates the event, with the help of other committee members and volunteers. He said everything appears on track for another successful event.
He said they’ve raised nearly $25,000 towards the $60,000 goal to pay for the meals. About $12,000 was carried over from previous events.
Banks said they received a $10,000 matching grant from a donor. That match hasn’t been met quite yet so people can double the value of their donations right now, he noted.
He said many of the volunteers who help pack the meals also donate money. The cost for one box of meals that will provide 216 meals to hungry children is $47.52.
If people are unable to volunteer to help pack food, their monetary contributions are just as important, he said.
Volunteer packers sought
Banks said they still need volunteers to pack the meals. During the event, 140 volunteers are needed for each two-hour packing period.
There are two shifts Thursday, five shifts Friday, including a Midnight Madness session from 10-12 midnight, and three more Saturday to complete the effort.
People can sign up online for the shifts or call Banks at 308-883-0397 or leave a message at 308-883-0104. Donations can also be made online.

This marks the fourth consecutive year SNMGC has sponsored the event.
This year’s number of meals, combined with meals packed during the first three years, will bring the total number of meals packed in Imperial to 1.5 million meals.
