Wheat harvest is well underway in the Wauneta area. As of Tuesday morning the Frenchman Valley Co-op in Wauneta has received just over a million bushels of wheat and representatives estimate there is still a lot waiting to be cut. Here a truck with Mawhirter Custom Harvesting weighs on the Wauneta scale. So far, this year’s wheat has an average test weight of 63.73 and the average protein is running 12.61 with an average moisture content of 12.72. In 2013, the elevator received 681,517 bushels for the entire year. Since 1992, the best wheat harvest seen at the Wauneta elevator was 1,251,632 bushels in 2007. This year’s harvest is expected to surpass that total.
