The Hayes and Chase County Sheriff departments are each investigating similar area incidents.
Late Monday, June 23, or early Tuesday morning, June 24, the Palisade and Wauneta swimming pools were broken into.
Though the departments don’t know if the events are connected, both facilities were entered through the front doors on the same date.
Hayes County Sheriff Tom Dow said a billfold, personal items, pop and candy were stolen at Palisade, plus a mountain bike parked outside. The door was damaged enough to need replacement.
A money bag with approximately $300 in cash was stolen in Wauneta, according to Chase County Sheriff’s Deputy Mike Dukes. The break-in at Wauneta was discovered by Village Superintendent Bill Bischoff Tuesday morning. Entry was gained by the suspect or suspects forcing the front doors, damaging the door and locking mechanism.
An overnight rain has given officials an idea of the timing of the events.
As the investigations continue, citizens are asked to contact either Sheriff Departments with any information related to the break-ins. The Chase County Sheriff may be reached at 308-882-4748 and the Hayes County Sheriff at 308-286-3364.
