Low water levels and a rainy start to the weekend combined to create good fishing conditions at Enders Lake for Memorial Day weekend.
The release of six feet of water from the reservoir that started May 8 forced the closure of the lake’s regular main ramps on May 20.
Nebraska Game and Parks Commission Seasonal Superintendent Beau Licking said people were very understanding of where to launch boats. Game and Parks personnel set up two temporary ramps prior to the start of the weekend.
He said there were about 2,000 people at the lake over the four-day weekend, and about 63 campers parked.
“The weekend could have been busier, but we were happy with the weekend,” expressed Licking.
Lake personnel were surprised by the amount of rain received at the lake, estimating a total of 4.5 inches over the weekend.
Licking noted there were a lot fewer people skiing or tubing than normally seen over the holiday weekend. Instead, “a lot more people were out enjoying the good fishing weather.”
Licking said the fish cleaning station stayed pretty busy over the weekend because, “There were a lot of fish caught.”
