The Wauneta-Palisade track teams kicked off the season with meets last week at Perkins County and Cambridge.

After going to Perkins County Thursday, the teams were at Cambridge Saturday.

At Cambridge, Abbie Fanning led the way for the girls’ squad.

Fanning took home firsts in the 100 and 200 meter dashes, winning both races comfortably.

Fanning also added a second place finish in the 400 meter dash and a fourth in the long jump. The top five jumpers were within four inches first place.

Also placing for the girls’ team was Tailor Lee in the shot put and discus. Lee placed third and fourth, respectively.

Hannah Nordhausen placed second in the discus.

Ellie Lee was sixth in the 400 meter dash.

Wes Anderjaska was fourth in the 400 meter dash and third in the 800 meter run to lead the Bronco boys.

Anderjaska also ran a leg on the 4x400 meter relay which finished fifth. Team members included Landon Jutten, Brody Nordhausen and Tyler Davis.

Jutten and Davis both placed in the high jump. Each jumped 5’2”. Jutten finished third and Davis fourth.

Gage Crowell placed sixth in the shot put.

The Broncos only took a partial team to Perkins County.

T. Lee placed first in the shot put and fourth in the discus.

Sydnee Harchelroad was second in the 400 meter dash, fifth in the 800 meter run and fourth in the high jump.

H. Nordhausen was second in the discus.

E. Lee placed third in the 200 meter dash.

Coach Dawn Doetker said it was finally nice to be running on real tracks.

“It was a good start for girls and boys,” she said. “I’ll keep saying it all season long, we are small, but mighty. The team is working hard and has had good hard practices. We are taking one week at a time.”

The Broncos will next be in action Saturday at Sutherland. Next week the team will travel to Benkelman on Tuesday.
