The Wauneta-Palisade Lady Broncos advanced to the RPAC tournament with wins over Hitchcock County and Hayes Center.
With a win over Paxton Jan. 23, the Broncos are now riding a seven game winning streak and have won 10 out of the last 11 games.
In a warm up Thursday for the RPAC tournament, the Lady Broncos travelled to Paxton.
The game started with a Brooklyn Nordhausen free throw, a three-pointer by Sydnee Harchelroad then two baskets by Nicole Strand around a Brianna Einspahr three-pointer.
Leading 11-4 at the end of the first quarter, WP continued to pull away in the second quarter thanks to its post players.
Tailor Lee, held scoreless in the first quarter, made eight points and Nordhausen scored four points. WP also got one free throw from Harchelroad and took a 24-11 lead into halftime.
Lee opened the second half with three straight points before another Harchelroad three-pointer. Lee added three more points leading into a free throw by Ellie Lee. WP rounded out the quarter with a baskets by Einspahr and Harchelroad, one more Harchelroad free throw and a 39-20 lead.
T. Lee made five baskets in the final quarter, scoring all 10 WP points. T. Lee finished the game with 24 points.
Harchelroad added 10 points.
Win first two of RPAC
The Broncos cruised through the first two rounds of the RPAC tournament with dominating wins over Hitchcock County, 54-29, and Hayes Center, 54-24.
Played at Maywood, WP opened up a 29-13 halftime lead thanks to 11 points by T. Lee and 10 points by Nordhausen.
The pair scored 12 of WP’s points in the fourth quarter, inlcuding hitting 5-6 from the charity stripe. Each finished with 18 points for the Broncos.
WP opened the Hayes Center game with a 6-0 run and led 14-4 at the end of the first quarter. The Broncos used good passing throughout the game to find the open player.
The Broncos’ offense continued to play well in the second quarter and the defense held Hayes Center scoreless until less than a minute remained in the half.
WP stretched its lead to 39 points in the fourth quarter and advanced to the semifinals of the tournament with the win.
Three players finished in double figures. T. Lee scored 13 points, Einspahr added 12 points and Harchelroad scored 11 points.
WP has played its last three games without injured senior guard Abbie Fanning.
Fanning is expected to miss Thursday’s semifinal game at Dundy County-Stratton, but may be available to play Saturday.
Tipoff for the DCS game will be at 6:45 p.m. MT/7:45 p.m. CT.
If WP beats Dundy County-Stratton, it will be in the championship game to be played Saturday at 5:00 p.m. MT/6:00 p.m. CT.
With a loss, WP will play in the consolation game at 1:30 p.m. MT/2:30 p.m. CT.
Both games will be played at Southern Valley.
