Despite cooler weather to start the week, the Wauneta pool is keeping busy, including swimming lessons which began on Monday. Here, lifeguard Paul Behrends helps his sister Olivia practice the back float. (Diane Stamm | The Wauneta Breeze)
While an average June has temperatures in the low to mid 80s, eight days of temperatures above 87 have made the Wauneta pool a popular spot for area swimmers.
The first session of Red Cross swimming lessons began Monday morning. Sixteen swimmers are taking part in levels ranging from one to six.
The next session of lessons will run from July 8-19, Mondays through Fridays.
Fees for the lessons are $35 for each session per student. Those interested in private lessons can contact Jessie Mizer, 308-350-0705.
Other June events include Water Aerobics and Mommy and Me.
Water Aerobics are being held at 6:00 p.m. MT Tuesdays and Thursdays. The cost is $4 per session.
For children age 6 months to three years and their parents, Mommy and Me is held at 6:00 p.m. MT on Wednesdays.
The class is “designed to help younger children become more comfortable with the water.”
