Kerry Miller is no stranger to Palisade and now she’ll become an even more integral part of the community as the Village Clerk/Treasurer.
Miller accepted the position at the Village’s regular board meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 13. She will take over duties left vacant after the previous Clerk/Treasurer, Nicole Weise, left in December. Weise had held the position for over seven years.
Miller spent much of her youth in Palisade visiting her grandparents, Jim and Pearl Andrew. She’s been living in Palisade for the past year and a half.
“I’m really excited to be a part of the community and give back. Palisade has a lot to offer!” said Miller.
In her short time living in the community Miller has already begun volunteering around town. She is a member of the Palisade Fire and Rescue where she serves as an EMT and firefighter.
Patty Post, Deputy Clerk, and Jason Hicks, Vice Chair of the Palisade Village Board, say they are, “very pleased with Kerry’s spirit and energy. The learning curve will be steep for a while, but we have great confidence in and expectations for her.”
Miller’s duties will include accounting, revenue administration, treasury management, repairing, maintaining and attesting to the official records of actions taken by the Board of Trustees in regular and special meetings.
The Village Clerk/Treasurer is also custodian of the official books and records of the Village, Treasury and Village Elections.
The position of Village Clerk/Treasurer is appointed each year for a term of one year by the Village Board of Trustees and works under the direction and supervision of the Village Board Chairman.
“Kerry will do fine, she’s a people person. Working as the Village Clerk/Treasurer entails a lot more than people might think, there are a lot of legalities and regulations to manage,” Hicks explained.
Angie Bowman, the former clerk/treasurer for the Village of Trenton is going to show Miller the “ropes” of the legal processes and time frames she will need to know in her new position, said Post.
The Palisade Village office is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. CT. Miller’s position is a full time appointment.
Most recently Miller worked as a Kindergarten para educator at Wauneta-Palisade Schools in Palisade. Prior to that she served as the director of the Wauneta Senior Center.
Miller’s family includes daughter Shelby, and husband, Joe Cox, and granddaugher Alicyn of Champion.
