There were so many amazing Christmas light displays this year in Wauneta that the residents of Sunrise Heights of Wauneta had a tough time judging them.
Karla Lipska, Sunrise Heights staff coordinator of the event, said, “There were a lot of awesome lights and this year was the hardest for the residents to judge!”
Lipska took two trips with a total of 18 residents out on Monday, Dec. 17 to judge the lights around town.
The caravans of judges went all around town and up on the hill. The residents conferred together and chose their favorite three light displays.
After careful consideration and, no doubt, a little debating...the winners were named.
Donny and Karen Allen’s home was given the honor of first place in the contest. Their display consisted of all white lights and their porch was wrapped up like a present. Two Christmas trees, also done in all white lights, were visible through their upstairs windows.
Second place went to Kelly and Dee McCallum. The focal center of their display was two giant lit candy canes, which formed an arbor over their sidewalk. Deer and trees made of lights framed the rest of their snow-covered lawn.
Third place honors were given to Terry and Raina Lasater for their jovial, and colorful display of snowmen, teddy bears, dancing lights and old-fashioned lampposts.
