Wauneta’s nursing home will change its name to Sunrise Heights of Wauneta on July 1.
Vetter Health Services (VHS), the current owner of the nursing home now named Heritage of Wauneta, announced last summer plans to sell or close the nursing home on June 30. The Village of Wauneta has made plans to purchase the nursing home and will assume ownership on July 1.
The community of Wauneta joined together in a campaign to raise over $230,000 in private funds to help with the anticipated $800,000 needed to purchase the nursing home from VHS. The private fundraising goal was met in April.
The village board is moving forward with its plans to purchase the home, which include plans to take up to $500,000 in revenue bonds to help with the purchase and initial operation of the nursing home.
Village board member Page Johnston shared the new name for the nursing home with the other members of the board at their regular meeting last Tuesday, May 8.
Johnston explained that nursing home staff members were asked to make suggestions on the new name. Residents and staff voted on the suggestions and together they chose Sunrise Heights of Wauneta.
The village board approved the name and will direct counsel to secure the name in whatever manner necessary. See additional information on last week’s Village board in a separate story.
