The school board gave the ok to make an offer of not more than $ 80,000 for two used coach buses. To be used for activities.
The purchase would eliminate the need to pull a bus off a regular route when there is more than one activity going on.
The cost of the two buses would be half of that for one yellow bus. Currently one bus in the fleet is not serviceable due to many mechanical problems. The proposed buses would take care of that bus and add an activities at the same time, thus killing two birds with one stone.
In other business, Marilyn Kunkel gave an update on the continuous improvement plan from the surveys that were given to parents, students, and staff. Overall the school is doing well according to the surveys.
The agenda included discussion and beginning work on the 2012-2013 school calender. The board was informed that the RPAC travelling art show display is at the Wauneta Attendance Center. Brooklyn Nordhausen was mentioned as RPAC west best of show.
The board was also reminded of the attendance and truancy policy. If a student has five absences in a quarter, 10 in a semester or 20 for the year the school board must send a letter to the county attorney. The letter must be sent regardless of the reason for the absences.
The football and volleyball schedules for 2012-2013 are almost complete with only a couple more games to be authorized by other schools.
Finally, Dr. Stan Sibley reported that he approached the Village of Palisade about designating a loading and unloading zone for parents to drop off their children. The loading and unloading zone is needed due to a lack of parking and for the safety of the students crossing the road to get to the school. The Village of Palisade will decide and Dr. Sibley will keep the board updated on it.
