With three games remaining in its season, the Wauneta-Palisade boys’ basketball team fell to Medicine Valley 54-41 at home Thursday.

Both teams started slowly in the contest. At the six minute mark Medicine Valley was leading 2-0 before Logan Bischoff got the Broncos on the board.

Bischoff scored his team’s first six points in the contest. Bo Fanning and Connor Kayton each hit free throws and Bischoff made nine points in the first quarter, which ended with the Raiders leading 15-11.

The Broncos started the second quarter strong. Kayton scored on Wauneta-Palisade’s first possession and Jack McGraw got in on the action with an offensive rebound and bucket on the next trip down the court to tie the game at 15.

After a Raiders’ basket, McGraw scored again to keep the game tied. Despite two baskets by Bischoff the half ended on a 13-4 Medicine Valley run. The Broncos headed into half time down nine, 30-21.

The second half opened with six points by Medicine Valley before a basket by Bischoff. Following a bucket by the Raiders, Wes Anderjaska hit two free throws and Bischoff scored off an offensive rebound to make the score 38-27.

The Broncos could only manage one basket by Bischoff over the final two and a half minutes of the third quarter.

Trailing 43-29 heading into the final eight minutes, Wauneta-Palisade continued to rely on Bischoff.

In the fourth quarter the Broncos got four points from Kayton and two from McGraw, while Bischoff notched six points. Bischoff and McGraw scored six points off offensive rebounds. Kayton scored on an inbounds pass from McGraw and made two free throws. The Broncos allowed 11 points in the quarter en route to the 54-41 loss.

Bischoff scored 25 points in the contest. Kayton and Fanning scored seven and six points, respectively. Anderjaska added two and Fanning one point. The Broncos made seven-of-twelve free throws.

Medicine Valley finished with three players in double figures. Riley Garey led the way with 14. The Raiders were 10/14 from the charity stripe.

At 9-9, the Broncos game against Sutherland Friday was canceled due to weather. The team travels to Chase Co. on Tuesday then Maywood on Friday, Feb. 10. Their season wraps up Friday, Feb. 17, hosting Dundy Co.-Stratton.

JV Game

All eight players scored for the Wauneta-Palisade boys JV team in a three quarter defeat of Medicine Valley Thursday. Jacob Maris’ 18 points led the Broncos way in the 53-41 win.

Maris made 11-of-14 free throws in the final eight minutes, while Chase Barthel made 13 points in the final quarter. Barthel finished with 26 in the contest.

The Broncos made 16/27 free throws the game.

The Raiders were three-of-seven.

Wes Anderjaska finished with nine points. Connor Kayton and Hayden Pollmann each scored seven points.

Weylin Davis and Landon Jutten totaled four points each. Lorenzo Cavanaugh and Christopher Carl finished with three and one point, respectively.
