Cody Fanning led the Doane Tiger football team in tackles with eight in their season opening win, 31-14, over Briar Cliff University on Saturday afternoon in Sioux City, Iowa. Fanning, a Wauneta-Palisade graduate and Bronco football standout, was credited for making several key defensive plays for the Tigers, according to a Doane College Sports Information Office game summary. Doane will be in action again next Saturday when they travel to Madison, S.D., to take on Dakota State University at 4 p.m.

NU quarterback Taylor Martinez’s big day against Chattanooga couldn’t disguise the kinks that showed up in the debut of Nebraska’s new offense. Coordinator Tim Beck says the No. 10 Cornhuskers faced too many third-and-long situations in their 40-7 win. On Saturday the Huskers take on Fresno State in Lincoln with kickoff slated for 5 p.m. MT/6 p.m. CT. - AP
