The Wauneta Breeze
It’s class reunion time in Wauneta.
Former classmates at Wauneta and Wauneta-Palisade High School will renew old ties this weekend as they join together for the 2011 Alumni Banquet. This year’s honored classes include 1931, 1941, 1951, 1961, 1971, 1981, 1991 and 2001.
Due to some unique circumstances, graduation at Wauneta-Palisade has also been set for Saturday, with commencement exercises slated for Saturday morning and the Alumni Banquet for Saturday evening. The school will host an open house with tours of the recently completed remodeling project at two times on Saturday. The first open house will be held during the hour following graduation with the second offered during the hour before the Alumni Banquet, with tours beginning at 5:30 p.m. MT/6:30 p.m. CT.
The Alumni Banquet will begin at 6:30 p.m. MT at the school gym in Wauneta with the WPHS Class of 1996 hosting this year’s event. Shanna Bardsley Schulte will serve as master of ceremonies, with Courtney Arenz Criffield and Roz Mintling Sheldon assisting with the banquet program.
Dawn Doetker and Sara Behrends will sing the “Star Spangled Banner.” This year’s entertainment will be a slide-show presentation featuring photos and school highlights of this year’s honored classes compiled by Sheldon and Criffield.
Members of the the honored classes are reminded that group photos will be taken at the close of the banquet and will be included in next week’s Breeze.
The roast beef and pork loin meal will be prepared by L&L Catering.
The deadline for purchasing banquet tickets has passed, but there may be extra tickets available via Walgren’s Super Market to be picked up at the door the night of the banquet.
