WP routs Maywood/Hayes Center and Arthur County

The Wauneta-Palisade boys’ basketball team laid the wood to the Wolves, both Maywood/Hayes Center and Arthur County, in games last week.
    Friday against MHC, WP sprinted out to a 12-0 lead and finished the first quarter with 33 points on the board. Greg Gaston scored 16 points in the first quarter and went five-of-five from the charity stripe. Close behind was Cash Yearous with 10 points and Brody Nordhausen added six points.
    Subs played for much of the second quarter for WP. Caid Doetker scored six points and Ben Anderjaska five points to help the Broncos to a 44-23 halftime lead.
    The third quarter proved to be another good quarter for the Broncos. Gaston scored nine more points for WP and Yearous and Duncan Rector each totaled six points.
    With the 69-37 lead, four WP starters didn’t play in the fourth quarter of the 84-48 win.
    Gaston led WP with 25 points and Yearous and Doetker scored 16 and 14 points, respectively.
    Austen Rozelle and Doetker each pulled down six rebounds. Gaston had seven assists and Rector five steals.
    Saturday WP had equal success at Arthur County.
    After a close first quarter WP led 12-7.
    Both the Bronco offense and defense kicked into gear in the second quarter. Rector, Gaston and Yearous made three-pointers and the team made five players made two-point field goals.
