WP downed by number one Paxton, win first round RPAC game

The intensity of the basketball season kicked up a notch for the Wauneta-Palisade boys’ basketball team last week with a visit from Class D1 number one Paxton and the start of the RPAC tournament.
    Facing box-and-one defenses have been common for the past several weeks, but WP Head Coach Dave Kuhlen said they were surprised to see one from Paxton.
    “Paxton caught us off guard by running a chaser defense against Duncan,” Kuhlen said. “Normally a team ranked No. 1 wouldn’t feel the need to run a junk defense, but I guess that is a compliment to our kids.”
    Faced with 6 foot, 10 inch Blake Brewster in the paint, Kuhlen said the plan was to shoot a lot of 3s and the team had looked good during the week of practices from behind the arc.
