The East teams took both games of the annual CSO contests Friday.
Wauneta-Palisade’s Destiny Beacham and Faith Simpson were part of the West team led by WP Coach Matt Cox.
It was the second time Cox has coached in the annual event.
“I enjoy the CSO event because it teams up kids who have been competing against one another for four or more years,” Cox said. “It’s fun for me to see them form a relationship over the span of a couple practices and a game.”
The West squad ran into a long, aggressive East team and lost 40-73.
“We missed a ton of easy, close shots early in the game and I think that affected the girls mind set as we went further along in the first half,” Cox said. He added the East team was much more athletic than the West team from top to bottom.
Heading into the game Cox said he felt the West team could get some things going inside.
“I felt our posts were our advantage, and that would give us some opportunities to sling some threes as the game went along,” Cox said. “Things got pretty physical in the paint and we didn’t adapt to that very well. Couple that with giving up a ton of points in transition, and it just wasn’t a great night for the west side.”
Coaches choose their teams from a list of nominations. Cox said he and Hitchcock County Coach Mark Brown tried to get at least one player from every school who had a senior nominated.
