Ty Duvel puts up a layup over two Arapahoe players. Duvel finished with six points in the game.

Wauneta-Palisade falls to Arapahoe for the second time

The Wauneta-Palisade boys’ basketball team dropped its third game of the season last week with a 49-61 loss to Arapahoe.
After trading baskets early in the contest, WP was able to take a 13-9 lead. The advantage didn’t last, unfortunately, with the Warriors coming back. With a late Duncan Rector basket, WP trailed 15-16 at the end of the first quarter.
The Broncos were held scoreless over the first 3:20 of the second quarter. When the WP offense finally found some traction behind two baskets by Dalton Harchelroad, Arapahoe had an answer.
WP pulled to within 24-27, but Arapahoe scored on its final four possessions of the half as WP’s final five points came on free throws. The Broncos trailed 25-35 at halftime.
Four points by Cash Yearous got WP off on the right foot in the second half, but the Broncos could never get the Warriors lead to less than nine points. Harchelroad scored WP’s final six points of the quarter, but they came over a six-minute span.
Facing a 35-49 deficit, a Ty Duvel basket, followed by back-to-back buckets by Austen Rozelle brought WP back to within 10 points.
Another Duvel basket between free throws by George Lee, Ben Anderjaska and Joel Maris narrowed the gap to 49-56, but WP went scoreless over the final 2:53 of the game.
