Unusual races keep things interesting at Phillips County Raceway

Last Friday’s races at Phillips County Raceway were relatively small, but it was a beautiful night for it, and there were a number of unique events.
Compacts had a repeat of their last Holyoke matchup, with the five racers finishing in the same order. This time, instead of snagging the win in the final lap, Shalanda Smith held a nice lead throughout.
When the hobby stocks prepared for their feature, four cars were in the running. One by one, without any wrecks, three of them ended up having car troubles. Tanner Clough was the only racer to finish.
Stock cars were off to a rocky start, with two cars getting stuck together on the first lap, necessitating a complete restart. A wreck on the last lap meant the race started and finished with a bang.
In the sport mods division, Brian Cross made maintaining his lead look effortless, staying out of the trouble some other drivers ran into and finishing first.
Modifieds went on to finish their feature event with no wrecks and no discernible car problems, just a good, quick race.
