Lady Broncos sweep Leyton, head into postseason 14-10

The regular season came to a close Friday with a win for the Wauneta-Palisade volleyball team. WP picked up a three-set sweep over D1 Leyton (18-7) Friday.
WP Head Coach Terra Higgins said the Broncos came out with a ton of intensity.
“I thought we served very aggressively and we got touches on everything on defense,” Higgins added.
    WP won the match 25-15, 25-21, 26-24.
Haylee Sandman had 12 kills to lead the Broncos. Monique Gooden totaled eight of WP’s 17 service aces. Gooden also carried a heavy passing load with 17 of WP’s 49 defensive digs.
“This was a great way to end the regular season and we have some good confidence going into subdistricts next week,” said Higgins.
While WP will head into the post-season with the win, it will have nine days with no games.
Many schools play their final regular-season games Monday and Tuesday.
“I honestly wish we had one more game this week, but we will use our practice time to get prepared mentally and physically for the game next week,” Higgins said.
The three other members of WP’s subdistrict, Medicine Valley, Wallace and Maywood/Hayes Center, played earlier this week. The Broncos beat all three teams during the season.
