Broncos have busy week heading into Wednesday’s district meet

The Wauneta-Palisade track teams experienced ups and downs last week during meets in Sutherland and Benkelman.
Tuesday, May 1, multiple athletes attended the Best of the Mid West in Sutherland. Athletes were invited from schools ranging from North Platte and Minden to Sandhill/Thedford and Arthur County.
WP took its largest contingent in years.
WP Head Coach Dawn Doetker was pleased with her teams’ performances, especially Faith Simpson. The senior set the meet record and increased the school record in the discus with a throw of 143’2”.
    Simpson also placed second
by less than two inches in the shot put, and placed fourth in the 100-meter hurdles and high jump.
Michaela Dukes also represented the Lady Broncos with a seventh-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles.
Leading the way for the boys’ team was senior Cash Yearous. Yearous placed fifth in the 1,600-meter run.
Austen Rozelle finished in seventh place in the 100-meter dash and Dalton Harchelroad placed eighth in the triple jump.
Friday the entire WP squad traveled to the Dundy County-Stratton Twilight in Benkelman.
