Bronco track teams open season strong at Maywood/Hayes Center Invite

The Wauneta-Palisade track teams got the season started off on the right foot at the Maywood/Hayes Center Invite in Trenton. The WP boys’ squad earned a second place finish and the girls’ team was third.
It was the Broncos’ first trip to the meet. WP Coach Dawn Doetker said the team wanted to be closer to home for the season’s opening meet.
“I thought the meet went very well,” Doetker said. “Our team competed very well.”
Doetker added that the team treated the meet as practice.
“It is so important to establish a base to get our athletes in shape and condition. We still have a lot of work to do but overall it was an exciting day for us here at WP,” Doetker said.
Faith Simpson won four events for the girls’ squad. Simpson upped her personal best and school record with a winning toss of 132’8” in the discus. Simpson set another PR with a first-place throw of 37’3” in the shot put. Simpson also won the high jump and 100-meter hurdles.
For the boys’ team, Ben Anderjaska and Cash Yearous took home wins in the 800-meter run and 1,600-meter run, respectively.
