Wauneta’s rich history revisited

Chase County Historical Society President Charley Colton and 15 guests spent the evening of March 14 reliving Wauneta’s history.
With stories, newspaper articles and many pictures, both digital and physical, Colton presented Remember When...in Wauneta.
A few of the attendees could remember events and buildings from Wauneta’s history. Carol Maddux and Lela Hamilton added their recollections to Colton’s presentation.
Colton rehashed Wauneta’s past starting before its organization as a community in 1887, including information on the village’s post offices (a constant in the town since 1886), businesses, highways and railroads (completed to Wauneta in 1892).
Plans are in the works for a Wauneta day at the Chase County Museum this summer, according to Colton.
