Village of Wauneta asks to reduce hours with Chase County Sheriff’s Office

Chase County Sheriff Kevin Mueller told Chase County Commissioners Dave Hogsett, Chuck Vette and Don Weiss, Jr. during the Feb. 27 commissioners’ meeting that the Village of Wauneta has contacted his office about negotiating its contract with the Chase County Sheriff’s Office.
The village would like to decrease its hours patrolled from 160 to 40, reducing the village’s cost from $44,000 to $10,000.
The village would also no longer require a deputy to live  in Wauneta and does not want to help pay for a deputy’s vehicle.
County attorney Arlan Wine will draw up a new contract for review at the March 13 meeting.
