Smiling faces and laughter filled the Wauneta Community Building Feb. 10 at the Chamber’s Comedy Night.

Palisade, Wauneta communities laugh through the weekend

In Nebraska’s cold and dreary winter months laughter can often times be the last thing in mind. However, just in time to combat the winter blues, both Palisade and Wauneta communities held separate events that brought laughter, good food, communal bonding and more laughter into the community within the same week.
The Pioneer Credit Union had its 15th annual meeting Feb. 8 at the Palisade Attendance Center’s gym. Wanting to commemorate the quindecennial the bank hired comedian/magician Gayle Becwar showcased at the event.
The night started out with 34 Wauneta-Palisade elementary students leading attendees in The Pledge of Allegiance followed by a short business meeting.
Approximately 190 people in attendance then enjoyed a dinner of pork sandwiches, potatoes, cowboy beans and dessert catered by the Holy Family Alter Society.
Finally the long awaited main event finished out the night with constant laughter and smiles.
Becwar has performed in front of thousands of companies all of the world. True to his brand of clean, interactive, fast paced magic and comedy, Becwar involved many of the elementary students in various tricks and jokes.
“Everyone was just roaring laughing. He was so funny,” said Patty Anderjaska, one of the organizers of the event.
The night not only brought in many laughs, but also a total of $119 for the Children’s Miracle Network.

Wauneta Comedy Night
Despite a last minute change in entertainers the Wauneta Chamber of Commerce’s first annual Comedy Night was a hit with the community.
Chamber president Mandi Kramer said approximately 90 people attended the event and enjoyed a dinner of steak, potatoes, beans, cole slaw and dessert. There was both a cash bar and coffee bar available for all attendees.
Although a final financial number had yet to be calculated at the beginning of the week, Kramer and Chamber Treasurer Ashley Einspahr said that the silent auction did very well.
