The nursing home owned by the Village of Wauneta will have a new name effective Saturday, July 1. The facility will go by Wauneta Care and Therapy Center, a name that village board and staff say better reflects the variety of services provided at the facility.

Saturday, July 1, Wauneta’s nursing home will begin using a new name, Wauneta Care and Therapy Center.
“I’m excited about the new name,” said administrator Lisa Kisinger. “We offer many services to the general public in addition to long-term care and those services are reflected in Wauneta Care and Therapy Center.”
The change comes after the Village, which owns the facility,  was contacted earlier this year by a lawyer from Washington, D.C. who represents Sunrise Senior Living, LLC. The letter demanded the Village stop using the name “Sunrise” in relation to the provision of long-term care services.
At April village board meetings, the board members determined their choices were to change the name of Sunrise Heights of Wauneta or litigate with the corporation.
In May, the board approved a motion authorizing nursing home administration to work with Richard P. Nelson of Erickson/Sederstrom Attorneys at Law of Lincoln to officially change the facility’s name to Wauneta Care and Therapy Center.
