District 9 American Legion convention in Indianola

    The District 9 American Legion convention has been scheduled for March 17, 2018 hosted by Indianola Post #344 at the St. Catherine’s Church Hall in Indianola with registration from 7:00 a.m. MT/8:00 a.m. CT to 8:00 a.m. MT/9:00 a.m. CT and the meeting starting at 8:30 a.m. MT/9:30 a.m. CT.  Costs include $5 for registration and $10 for lunch.
    The meeting will begin with a joint session followed by separate sessions to conduct business.
    Special Legion guests include Past national commander, Mike Helm; Senior Vice Commander, Lyle Bartels; National Executive Chairman, Bill Crosier; Assistant Department Adjutant, Brent Hagel-Pitt; Area D Vice Commander, Roxanne Sones; Sons of American Legion West Area Vice Commander, Willie Foster; and Past Department Commander Richard Baxter.
    Special guests for Auxiliary will be Department auxiliary president, Kathy Mazur and Department membership chairman, Angie Foster. Donation baskets will be auctioned to contribute to President Mazur’s chosen project. Winners of the history, publicity and prayer books will be selected as well as the poppy centerpieces and corsages.
    The newly formed scholarship committee met February 25, 2018 in Palisade with eight members present to set the criteria for a new scholarship designated for students pursuing certifications in healthcare.  Details will be presented to District 9 Legion members at the District Convention in Indianola.
