The 35th annual Palisade Pioneer Days will start tomorrow, Friday, June 9 with events planned around town throughout the weekend.

Friday
    The weekend-long celebration kicks off Friday night with a wine tasting and bistro sampling at Sodtown Sundries from 5:30 p.m. MT/6:30 p.m. CT to 7 p.m. MT/8 p.m. CT.
    A coed softball game will begin at 7 p.m. MT/8 p.m. CT. The concession stand will be open and manned by the Wauneta-Palisade cheerleaders.
    Friday evening activities will conclude with a “Light the Night” run hosted by the WP Class of 2018. The event includes a 5K and kids’ one-mile fun run which start at 8 p.m. MT/9 p.m. CT. Registration begins a half an hour before at 7:30 p.m. MT/8:30 p.m. CT at Krotter Park. Prizes will be given to the top three finishers of the eight divisions of the 5K race.

Saturday
    Saturday starts bright and early with the Fireman’s Breakfast at the Fire Hall from 6 a.m. MT/7 a.m. CT to 8 a.m. MT/9 a.m. CT.
    Those who plan to have a parade entry are asked to be at the elevator at 8 a.m. MT/9 a.m. CT for parade registration.
    Opening at 8 a.m. MT/9 a.m. CT in the Smith Building will be the Art Show. The event will continue until 12 p.m. MT/1 p.m. CT.
    All art forms will be accepted at the Art Show. Exhibits will include photography, charcoal, paintings and sculptures. Contact Danny Schluckebier at 308-240-0008 for more information.
    The parade downtown is set to begin at 9 a.m. MT/10 a.m. CT. Betty Simants will serve as Grand Marshal. Simants has lived in Palisade for over 35 years, many of which she spent as a volunteer for the fire department and as an EMT. She continues to support the volunteer fire department by cooking them meals when they are called out.
