Sean McKay takes the upper hand in his 106-pound match Friday at the Medicine Valley Invitational.

The Wauneta-Palisade wrestlers team had a bit of a new look at last week’s two meets.

At Friday’s Medicine Valley Invitations, Sean McKay wrestled in the 106-pound weight class and Evan Nordhausen moved to 113 pounds.

WP Coach Dan Schluckebier said McKay had wanted a chance at 106-pounds and the coaches wanted to see what Nordhausen could move with the move up.

Schluckebier said the coaches wanted to give both wrestlers a fair shot and both stepped it up at the meet.

The pair each had five matches. McKay picked up a win in his fourth match.

Willis Christner lost both of his 160-pound matches.

Colton Barrett took the day off to recover from a previous injury.

Saturday, McKay and Nordhausen both wrestled in the 106-pound bracket. McKay won two-matches, including one over Nordhausen.

Barrett, at 138-pounds, won his first and then his last of five matches. Schluckebier said Barrett had a lot of hard matches, but pulled through.

Schluckebier said Christner’s bracket was a tough weight class with a lot of kids in it. Christner lost all four matches.
