Wauneta-Palisade wrestlers Willis Christner and Evan Nordhausen saw their seasons come to an end last weekend at the District D4 meet at North Platte St. Pats.
    “The intensity at districts is very cool, everyone knows they need to wrestle smart and be on their toes because everyone in your weight class is gunning for the top spot so they can have the chance to go to state,” WP Coach Danny Schluckibeir said. “It’s just neat to be in a competitive atmosphere both days of wrestling,”
    In his 10-man bracket, Christner, a senior, was pinned in both his matches.
    Christner lost his first match to Josh Cox. Cox advanced through the bracket and finished fourth, qualifing for state.
    Christner’s season ended with a lost to Caden Messersmith of Maxwell. Messersmith   lost to Cox in the consolation semifinals.
    Schluckebier said it was very hard to see Christner wrestle in his final match.
    “He said he had fun and without skipping a beat went on to support Evan and motivate him for his next match,” Schluckebier added.
    Nordhausen put in some extra conditioning work Thursday to make weight for the meet, Schluckebier said, and was excited to hit the mat Friday, though the extra work may have wore him down by Saturday’s match.
    Nordhausen lost in the first round to state qualifier Landon Klasna of North Platte St. Pats.
    Moving on to the consolation bracket Nordhausen won by technical fall over Lawrence Rodriguez of Minatare.
    In his final match, Nordhausen was pinned by Alyssa Shaw of Hyannis. Shaw beat Klasna in the consolation finals to advance to Omaha.
