WP junior high football and volleyball teams gain valuable experience throughout seasons

The junior high sports seasons ended in October for the Wauneta-Palisade seventh and eighth graders.

Football season
The football team finished with a 3-2 record.
Joseph Frecks, who shared coaching duties with Dave Kuhlen, said it was a very exciting season.
“This was a great group of boys to work with and they got better each and every week.  These boys are very coachable and did a great job of keeping a positive attitude and giving their best effort all of the time,” Frecks said.
Frecks said the biggest improvement shown came through understanding the game and the rules.
Frecks went on to highlight the season’s opening game against Southwest as one of the most memorable of the season.
“We were down pretty big at halftime but the boys never gave up, fought back into the game and actually took the lead late in the fourth quarter 62-58, we weren’t able to hold that lead, but I was extremely proud of the way the boys fought back and never gave up, they showed a lot of heart and character not just in that game but throughout the entire season,” Frecks said, adding, “It was also nice to then watch our improvement throughout the year after that game.”
Frecks said he’s excited to see how the players develop going forward as freshmen on next year’s high school team and as eighth graders leading the junior high.
