WP boys’ basketball team second at Cattle Trail Invite

The Wauneta-Palisade boys’ basketball team picked up two easy wins in last week’s Cattle Trail Invitational, but the championship plaque once more eluded the Broncos.
“I really enjoy the Cattle Trail because it gives you a good idea of where you stand as a team and what you need to improve on,” said WP head coach Dave Kuhlen.
The Broncos dominated in their opening-round win over Maywood/Hayes Center. WP got the tournament off on the right foot with a 29-point first quarter against Maywood/Hayes Center. The Broncos went to the free throw line 13 times in the first eight minutes. Dalton Harchelroad and Duncan Rector each scored eight points in the quarter.
WP continued to roll in the second quarter, piling on another 18 points.
Four Broncos starters didn’t play in the fourth quarter as WP won 72-6.
Rector scored 20 points to lead WP. Dennis Cavanaugh finished in double figures with 12 points. Doetker pulled down eight rebounds for the Broncos.
WP had 27 steals in the game; Rector totaled eight steals and added seven assists.
