Willis Christner participates in Down Under Sports Track & Field Meet in Australia
Willis Christner, a senior at Wauneta-Palisade Schools, went on a once in a lifetime trip down to Australia to attend the 2017 Down Under Sports Track & Field Meet that was held at Griffith University July 2–10.
Christner participated in three events, the 800 meter, 1,500 meter and the 3,000 meter. He ran a personal record in the 800 race, shedding nine seconds off his PR and ending his race with a time of 2:48.00. In the 3,000 meter run he had a time of 12:32.40 and the 1,500 meter run a time of 5:57.00.
Fifteen runners, divided into three heats, competed in each running event.
Christner said “It was a lot of fun and definitely an eye opener for me as an athlete.”
He mentioned that the best part about his Australia trip was being able to go and run in the events he loves and seeing the same passion from the other athletes that were participating in the track meet.
