The Wauneta-Palisade volleyball team completed its most successful season since 2014 this year, finishing with an 18-6 record.
WP opened its season with a bang, picking up a five-set victory over Dundy County-Stratton. Beating DCS was one of WP’s goals for the season, according to WP Head Coach Terra Higgins. She said the match was one of the highlights of the season and an exciting way to start the season.
The Broncos reeled off four more wins before recording a loss.
WP notched seven more wins in a row, including a three-set sweep of Maywood-Hayes Center (23-6) Sept. 21.
Higgins said it was the biggest game of the year.
“The girls really came mentally focused and prepared. They played with a lot of tenacity and heart. They never let down and had fun playing as a team,” Higgins said.
After the rough Brady Tournament, the Broncos got back on track with four wins before exiting the RPAC Tournament in the second round with a loss  to Dundy County-Stratton.
Two wins wrapped up the regular season before a loss to Brady ended the year with a 18-6 record. The Broncos were 11-14 in 2016, Coach Terra Higgins’ first year.
Higgins said other season goals included having a winning season with great attitudes and effort and making it to the state tournament.
