Track letterwinners to pull their weight in 2017

Twenty-four athletes have reported for this season’s Wauneta-Palisade track squad.
“We have a nice group of athletes competing,” WP Head Coach Dawn Doetker said. “I am very excited to see what they can do.”
Greg Gaston, now a senior, returns to defend his high jump state championship. Gaston also competed in the triple jump at state.
Senior Brody Nordhausen also returns to lead the way as well as Cash Yearous, a junior who ran the 1600 meters at the state meet. Junior Willis Christner returns as a distance runner.˚
Doetker says she expects the boys’ team to be very competitive despite the youth of the team. Seventeen boys are out.
For the girls’ side, junior Faith Simpson is back looking to improve on her medals from last year’s state meet in the discus and high jump. Simpson also ran in the 100 meter hurdles at state.
Classmates Reagan Skow and Alejandra Almanza also return as letterwinners.
With only seven girls out, Doetker said she wishes there were more girls taking part.
Also, Doetker said there is a nice group of freshman out.
“It is exciting to see what they can do at the high school level.”
