State Games final deadline is July 6

The final deadline to register for most sports in the 2018 Cornhusker State Games is Friday, July 6. Those interested can find information and register at CornhuskerStateGames.com.
     More than 6,000 athletes have already registered for the Games, most of which take place July 20-29.
    Competition is offered in more than 60 sports at venues in Lincoln, Omaha and surrounding communities. Thus far, athletes from 169 Nebraska communities and 21 different states have enrolled.
     Top sports so far include volleyball—550, shooting sports—451, ice hockey—423, basketball—403 and track and field—401. Athletes range in age from two (Dillon Booth, Papillion) to 90 (Bernie Moran, Columbus) years old.
     Besides the competition, each registered athlete receives a shirt, Opening Ceremonies pass and SportFest athlete meal. Opening Ceremonies take place July 20 at 8 p.m. at Seacrest Field in Lincoln and feature the parade of athletes, skydivers, fireworks, mascots and caldron-lighting by a mystery celebrity-athlete.
