Slow start dooms Lady Broncos against Chase County, DCS game postponed

A big second half was not enough to overcome a slow start Dec. 19 when the Wauneta-Palisade girls’ basketball team hosted Chase County.
A basket by Destiny Beacham one minute into the game was WP’s only points of the quarter as the Longhorns’ press gave WP fits.
“We got off to a rough start offensively with the two-point first quarter,” WP Head Coach Matt Cox said. “I thought we defended really well and was happy with our rebounding.”
The Broncos were more composed over the final two-thirds of the second quarter.
With WP in a deep hole, bench players Dakota Ingold and Destany Simpson provided a spark for the Broncos.  Combined with a basket by Monique Gooden, WP scored on four straight possessions.
Ingold scored once more for the Broncos and WP ended the half trailing 14-34.
Gooden and Beacham scored early in the second half for WP. Faith Simpson warmed up as the quarter went on, totaling seven points during the eight-minute span when WP outscored Chase County 16-12.
The Broncos outscored Chase County in the fourth quarter, as well, but it wasn’t enough as WP lost 47-61.
“We made a couple good runs, but could never get over the hump. Give Chase County credit for getting a basket every time they needed one,” Cox said.
