Hunter Miner works for a pin during his second round win over Franklin’s Brookie Watts.

Season coming into focus for WP wrestlers after third meet

Wins were hard to come by for the Wauneta-Palisade wrestling team at the Fran Jorgensen Invite Saturday at Cambridge.
Hunter Miner at 126 pounds picked up WP’s only win during his second-round match.
“Hunter wrestled well,” WP coach Danny Schluckebier said, adding Miner could have wrestled better.
    “Everyone should have wrestled better.”
Schluckebier said each of WP’s losses were due to small mistakes that the team hasn’t been making.
He went on to highlight Wyatt Muths’ second match at 138 pounds as one that the Broncos competed in well.
Faith Lemon has sat out the season after transferring to WP late in the summer. Lemon should be eligible after the first of the year. Lemon said it’s been hard to watch her teammates struggle on the mat, while knowing that they have the potential to do much better.
“There’s always a lot of good competition at this meet which ideally makes us better and more experienced,” Schluckebier said, but said that with 18 teams and three mats running smoothly, it was a long day of wrestling.
