PRs keep falling as Broncos continue to battle the weather

Despite less than perfect weather conditions, the Wauneta-Palisade track teams set 24 personal bests at the April 18 Hitchcock County Invite. Both teams finished second.
    “The team is competing very well even in the strong winds and the cold weather,” WP Head Coach Dawn Doetker said.
    Faith Simpson increased her school record in the discus with a winning toss of 135’2”. Simpson also placed first in the shot put with a PR of 37’11.25 and was first in the 100-meter hurdles.
    For the Bronco boys’ team, Ben Anderjaska placed first in the 400-meter dash with a PR and first in the 800-meter run. Anderjaska also ran a leg on the winning 1,600-meter relay.
    Cash Yearous was first in the 3,200-meter run with a PR, while finishing second in the 1,600-meter run. Yearous also ran a leg on the 1,600-meter relay.
    All three WP runners in the 100-meter dash set PRs, Austen Rozeelle with a second-place finish, Anderjaska with a fifth-place finish and Caid Doetker.
    In the boys’ 200-meter dash, Dalton Harchelroad and Doetker set PRs. Harchelroad had two personal bests and placed second in the triple jump, third in the 200 and 400 and fifth in the long jump.
    Dennis Cavanaugh won the discus, with Rozelle coming in second, and placed second in the shot put.
    Joel Maris was third in the 800 and fourth in the 400, as well as running legs on the 1,600-meter relay and 3,200-meter relay.
    Lake Reikofski had a PR in the long jump and Paxton Gleason had a PR in the shot put.
    Haylee Sandman had a good day for the Lady Broncos, earning personal bests in the 100, 200 and 400. Sandman was second in the 200 and 400-meter dashes.
    Sandman, Kendra Bley and Joanna Lawler all set PRs in the 400, while Payton Yearous and Bley had personal bests in the 800. Bley also set a PR in the triple jump. Yearous had a PR for her leg of the 1,600-meter relay.
