Lady Broncos fall in four sets to Brady at subdistricts

The Wauneta-Palisade volleyball team’s season came to an end Monday night with a 1-3 loss at the hands of Brady in subdistrict play.
WP Head Coach Terra Higgins said the team had a great week of practices heading into the postseason and the girls were focused on key areas it would take to win.
Service errors were the story in the first game. The teams combined for nine in the set.
WP fell behind in the early part of the first set. Trailing 2-8, WP clawed its way back into the match. The Broncos looked to tie the game at 17 with a Faith Simpson ace, but the up official overturned the line judge’s out of bounds call, and WP found itself trailing 16-18.
Brady couldn’t increase the two-point lead and WP fought off set point, 22-24, to come back and tie the match at 24, then 25.
Brady scored the final two points of the set to take the first game 25-27.
WP took out its aggression on the Eagles in the second game.
The aces, kills and blocks added up as Michaela Dukes served WP to a 9-0 lead. From there, Brady began chipping into the Bronco lead. Brady tied the game at 16 and once more earned set point, 22-24.
WP rallied to tie the game at 24, before earning game points at 25-24 and 26-25. The Broncos sealed the deal on it’s third try, winning the set 28-26.
Unfortunately, WP only held one lead in the third set, 1-0. The set was tied at 7-7 before a Brady run put the Broncos behind 10-17.
WP could never cut into the deficit, losing 16-25.
As the teams battled back-and-forth in the fourth set, WP held a three-point lead, 13-10.
The Broncos offense stalled, however, and only managed four points in the remainder of the match.
WP ends its season with an 18-6 record.
